Sparklers

from EP#1 by Kirsty Venters Marks

/

about

The sense most associated with memory is smell. There is something so damn melancholy about the smell of burnt out sparklers.

lyrics

Like my sparklers, your name lingers
Like my sparklers, your face stays
Burnt a bright hole in my darkness
Flashes remain in my eyes when you're gone

An arabesque of absences tells me that you're here
Curlicues of kisses gone show me you are near

Like my sparklers, your name lingers
Like my sparklers, your face stays
Held on too long, or so it would seem
Burnt my fingers, let fall all my dreams

And you have told me this
You have shown me this

Watch them crash and burn
All the pretty fireworks
You'd think that I would learn
But it goes from bad to worse
And worse

Come November, I will hold you
As a memory that lives in eyes and nose
Smells of heartbreak, like my sparklers
In the cold night I had to let you go

And I knew it was so
And I knew it was so...
